Create and edit multiple-source citations

Manuscripts allows you to create citations that reference multiple sources.


Cite multiple sources

  1. Place the text insertion cursor where you want to place your citation.
  2. Bring up your citation tool of choice.
    Select Insert > Citation to use the built-in citation tool, or use Magic Citations, F1000Workspace, or copy from Bookends.
  3. Select multiple references from the list and click Cite (or the equivalent, if using another tool).

Note: In Magic Citations, for multiple citations, you can search again after pressing Enter to filter references.


Add sources to an existing citation

  1. Place the text insertion cursor next to the citation where you want to add a citation.
    You can place the insertion point either before or after the citation.
  2. Bring up your citation tool of choice.
    Select Insert > Citation to use the built-in citation tool, or use Magic Citations, F1000Workspace, or copy from Bookends.
  3. Select the reference you want to add and click Cite (or the equivalent).
    The new citation appears at the end of the existing citation.

Edit a citation with multiple sources

To edit a citation with multiple entries:

  1. Click citation to bring up the citation details.
  2. Use the left and right arrow buttons to navigate between references.

  3. Click Delete Citation Item to remove any unwanted reference.
