The Inspector is where you set section requirements, paragraph styles, page layout options, figure and table styles. This is also where you define behavior relating to citations, notes, and elements such as figures and tables.

The Inspector appears as a sidebar to the right of the manuscript. You can toggle it on or off by clicking the Inspector button in right side of the status bar: Inspector button

The palettes are organized within two tabs:

Icon Tab name Palettes within this tab
Inspector content tab Content Section palette
Inspector style tab Style Paragraph Styles, Manuscript, Page Layout, Figure Styles, and Table Styles

How to use the palettes:

Palette Description
Section Acts on the current section. Add a description, set minimum and maximum word and character counts, and set the page numbering behavior for the section.
Paragraph Styles By default, this acts on the current text element, but you can choose another from the dropdown menu. You can set the font, size, styling, and color, as well as the text alignment, spacing, and list styling. See Style paragraphs and sections for more details.
Manuscript These settings affect the entire manuscript. Specify title and author list display, set the citation style and bibliography details, change labels for notes, figures, tables, equations, and listings, and set the export layout for figures and tables. You can find details in Choose a citation style, Manage footnoes and endnotes, Set label styles, Figures: add and manage images, and Tables: Create tables and insert pre-rendered tables.
Page Layout Set the page size, margins, and page styling here. You can also choose to include line numbers in exports.
Figure Styles See Create a new figure style.
Table Styles See Create a table style.

Note: If you open the Inspector but still don’t see the sidebar, try double-clicking on the frame of the app to resize the window to fit your display width.
