to reproduce: insert any citation using magic citations from Papers 3. The reference will be Firstname et al. rather than Lastname et al.
Bug: citations inserted with Papers 3 are referenced as Firstname et al.
Unfortunately since installing the 1.2.2 version Manuscripts crashes immediately upon launching; clearing the cache didn't help.
Where can I download 1.2.0 again?
1.2.2 complains that it's missing sections and might have not downloaded or unzipped correctly, on my macOS Sierra install.
Downloading 1.1.4 and upgrading to the latest beta got me back to 1.2.0 although that may not still work.
Edit: no, the download is now 1.2.2. The new beta can't export documents either. I've tried clearing the cache and re-downloading and no joy. Please can we have a fix?
@Adam-Buckley, @hubob the fix is just being deployed, should be up within the next hour or two. The crash is in fact already fixed in the later update (this was down to updating to a buggy version of a certain 3rd party framework – now updated that too). This update made available earlier today also added some extra safety for detecting corrupt resource files being bundled with the app, and in the process unearthed a false positive in the process still (it complains unnecessarily). This is just being updated.
@Adam-Buckley if you continue to have issues with exporting, would you mind sending us the document? There have been some recent changes to single and double quote handling with LaTeX exports, but that's the only thing I can guess at. If you send us a document I'll make sure to add a fix to the issue to our test suite as well.
@mz2 1.2.2 doesn't even really get as far as having issues with a document - when exporting to Word, it tries to export to a folder and then fails because it's the wrong file type.
I am still also getting three popups about "Failed to initialize or update resource data: styles", "sections" and "degrees".
@Adam-Buckley ah... Is this when selecting a new location to export, or when actually exporting? It actually should still complete even if it's to go in a folder (it'll go in the folder with a fixed file name). This is a feature of sort, in that Word exports can now also emit figure / table etc attached files next to the export, however with that description it sounds like the app has selected the folder exporting case unexpectedly. I'll improve this for a subsequent update.
@hubob: Here's a direct download link to the currently newest test version: http://updates.manuscriptsapp.com/apps/manuscripts/alpha/download
@mz2 Hi again,
- The new version has sorted out the errors on opening Manuscripts
- All authors now have twice the number of surnames in the exported file (i.e. I'm now Adam BuckleyBuckley)
- Manuscripts can now export Word files although the dialog still wants to choose a folder and the file itself can't be named
- exported Word files don't respect justification settings for either the body text or for captions/legends
- there's a space missing between citation numbers and the start of the citation in the Bibliography (i.e. 1Buckley et al.)
- there's still a typo at the bottom of the welcome screen, where it says "Show this dialog when Manuscript opens". I know it's totally irrelevant, but it's been bugging me for ages
@Adam-Buckley typo fixed The issue with the bibliography is going to be citation style specific – the author name issue is related to how we have migrated author names from one representation to a more powerful one in the more recent versions of Manuscripts, so I think it's going to only present itself in some combination of the author list style & document age. Would you mind sending an example document with the author name issue and citation style in question to firstname.lastname@example.org, and refer to this forum discussion, please?
